INGREDIENTS
Cheese Danish
Eight oz. cream cheese softened ($2.19)
1/3 cup sugared powder ($0.11)
1 tsp vanilla extract ($0.58)
One pinch of salt ($0.01)
One sheet of puff pastry frozen ($2.75)
One egg yolk, white and yolk separated ($0.09)
Icing
1/2 Cup powdered sugar ($0.16)
1/4 tsp vanilla extract ($0.15)
2 Tbsp of milk ($0.03)
INSTRUCTIONS
Place a baking sheet on top of parchment paper. Set the oven’s rack on top and heat it to 400°F. Combine the cream cheese vanilla, powdered sugar egg yolk, and salt until they are smooth and silky in texture.
Unfold the puff pastry, dust off any excess flour, and place it on the baking sheet. Cut off the seams so that you get three strips of equal size. Cut the strips into half.
Use a fork to cut around the edges of each puff pastry rectangle and leave a half-inch border. This will prevent puff pastry from rising in the middle.
Add two heaping tablespoons of your cream cheese mixture in each square. Spread it evenly, ensuring that the edges are left clear.
Mix the egg white with a mixer until it is frothy. Dip a pastry brush in the egg white that has been beaten and trace lightly around the edges. This gives it a shiny look and golden color.
Bake at 400°F for 10 minutes, then turn the baking sheet from front to back. Continue baking for 5-10 minutes or until the edges formed by the pastry have begun to rise and they are golden brown. Utilize a spatula to remove the pie from the pan and leave the lid on the rack.
In another bowl, mix the sugar powder, vanilla, and milk. Then, drizzle over the cooled Cheese Danish and enjoy watching your loved ones wolf the delicious treats! Optional: drizzle the strawberry jam of 2 tablespoons, thinned with one teaspoon of water.
